An Epic Journey Across Five Sacred Hearths

The Panchachuli Sacred Peaks expedition traverses pristine alpine meadows, ancient rhododendron canopies, and the roaring Gori Ganga glacial basin. Standing majestically in eastern Kumaon near the Indo-Tibetan border, the five summits provide an ethereal backdrop for wilderness travelers.

This 6-day expedition offers breathtaking ridge camping, crystal-clear night skies for astrophotography, and immersion in the unique mountain culture of the Shauka community.

About Trek

Sacred Heritage & Geological Grandeur

Named after the legendary hearths where the Pandavas cooked their final meal before ascending to heaven ("Pancha Chuli" meaning five cooking pots), this massif holds immense spiritual significance. Our expedition follows Leave-No-Trace principles and certified UIAGM mountain leadership, prioritizing safety, small cohort sizes, and scientific observation.

FIELD STAGES // 03

Itinerary

6 Days
Assemble at Kathgodam railway station at 6:30 AM. Scenic mountain drive through Almora, Bageshwar, and Birthi Falls before arriving at Munsiyari with panoramic sunset views of the five peaks.
Descend along the Gori Ganga riverbank through ancient oak groves. Visit indigenous Pashmina weavers at Darkot before reaching our riverside alpine camp at Lilam.
A steady uphill trail alongside narrow gorges, dramatic waterfalls, and rock-cut pathways. Acclimatization walk around Paton village in the evening.
Cross the tree line into sprawling alpine bugyals (meadows). Reach the high amphitheater directly underneath the towering ice walls of Panchachuli II and Meola Glacier.
Early morning sunrise reflection on the snow summits. Explore the lateral moraine of Meola Glacier before beginning our gradual descent down to Lilam camp.
Short morning hike back to Munsiyari roadhead. Group debrief, certificates distribution, and evening transfer back to Kathgodam railway station.

Eligibility

Fitness & Health Criteria

  • Trekker must comfortably jog 4.5 km within 30 to 35 minutes before departure.
  • Prior experience of high-altitude day hikes above 2,500m is recommended.
  • Minimum age: 11 years; Maximum age: 65 years.
  • Blood pressure and resting heart rate will be monitored daily.
